The main aim of Empowered Entrepreneurs is to support black entrepreneurs who have a genuine desire to create a certified business but finite support to turn this idea into a registered, Private Limited organisation. For economic growth within our communities, it is critical to increase our footprint in the UK business ownership marketplace.
The necessity for our organisation was finalised during an in-depth study, conducted by our company director, where he looked into multiple reports and statistics which not only highlight the numerous challenges that we as black people experience in the United Kingdom, it also became extremely clear that proactive action was required to support the many black entrepreneurs in the UK with a vision, but inadequate support to take our potential to the much needed heights.
The estimated total population count in the UK is 66.9 million people. Black people make up roughly 3.7% of that number which is roughly 2.4 million people. According to.Gov.UK, only 69% of the black population are employed which is noted as just over one million people. Research would suggest that only 200 medium sized businesses are owned by black people in the UK. In 2020, independent reports stated that across the private sector in the UK, only 1.5% of senior roles are held by black people. This study also showed an alarming increase of only 0.1% from 2014 – 2020
